MATERIALS & FINISHES

What the hardware is—and how to compare it.

Start with material, finish availability and the relationship between the hardware and the room. Product-specific details always take priority over general guidance.

MATERIAL Is OBJECT & TONE cabinet hardware made from solid brass?

Yes. OBJECT & TONE cabinet pulls, knobs, T-bars and their visible bases are made from solid brass. The individual product page lists the configuration, dimensions, net weight, finish options and included mounting hardware for that item. Review those details before ordering because size and finish availability vary across the collection.

READ PRODUCT INFORMATION →

MATERIAL Why choose solid brass cabinet hardware?

Solid brass gives a small working object substance in the hand and supports crisp profiles, textured grips and durable everyday function. Material alone does not determine suitability, however. The product's size, projection, mounting method, finish and intended indoor application should all be checked against the cabinet and the way it will be used.

FINISH RANGE Which OBJECT & TONE hardware finishes are currently available?

Current finish names are Natural Brass, Antique Brass, Matte Black and Brushed Nickel. Select CHROMA designs also offer Matte White, Klein Blue, Vermilion Red and Van Gogh Yellow. Brushed Nickel is offered on selected SPAN and TUCK pulls. Not every finish is available on every product or size; use the selected variant to confirm availability.

COMPARE ALL FINISHES →

BRASS TONES What is the difference between Natural Brass and Antique Brass?

Natural Brass is the brighter and clearer brass expression, creating a warmer visible highlight on cabinetry. Antique Brass is deeper and more subdued, so it often feels integrated with walnut, oak, putty colors and saturated paint. The same finish can read differently in daylight and artificial light, so compare an eligible sample in the room before a larger order.

COLOR ACCURACY Will a finish look exactly the same as it does on my screen?

Not necessarily. Photography, screen calibration, brightness, daylight, bulb temperature and nearby surfaces can all shift perceived color. Online images are useful for narrowing the options, but a physical sample provides a more reliable comparison when the finish must coordinate closely with cabinet paint, timber, stone, tile or nearby metalwork.

VIEW SAMPLE OPTIONS →

COORDINATION Can I mix cabinet hardware with a different faucet, appliance or lighting finish?

Yes. A coherent room does not require every metal finish to match. Choose one dominant finish, then repeat a supporting finish in at least one other element so the relationship feels intentional. Warm brass and black create clear contrast; stainless appliances can often operate as a neutral while the cabinet hardware establishes the room's warmer or darker direction.

APPLICATION Can OBJECT & TONE hardware be used in kitchens, bathrooms, wardrobes and furniture?

The collection is intended for normal indoor cabinetry and furniture, including kitchens, bathroom vanities, wardrobes, built-ins and casegoods. Confirm dimensions, panel thickness, clearance and room conditions before ordering. In areas exposed to splashes or higher humidity, wipe the hardware dry and do not allow water or cleaning products to remain on the surface.

SIZING & FIT

Measure the holes before choosing the hardware.

Center-to-center spacing determines whether a two-hole pull fits existing holes. Overall length, projection, base diameter and grip determine how it looks and functions.

MEASUREMENT What does center-to-center, or C-C, mean?

Center-to-center is the distance from the center of one mounting hole to the center of the other. It applies to two-hole pulls and is the critical measurement when replacing existing hardware. It is not the pull's overall length. OBJECT & TONE lists dimensions in millimeters and uses inch equivalents where helpful for North American projects.

OPEN THE SIZE GUIDE →

MEASUREMENT Are overall length and center-to-center size the same?

No. Center-to-center describes the mounting-hole spacing. Overall length measures the hardware from one end to the other. A 128 mm C-C pull will normally be longer than 128 mm overall. Match center-to-center when reusing holes, then review overall length, projection and base dimensions to confirm scale, coverage and clearance.

MEASUREMENT What does projection mean on cabinet hardware?

Projection is how far the installed hardware extends from the cabinet face. It affects finger clearance, grip and whether the piece interferes with adjacent doors, trim, countertops or appliances. Compare the listed projection with the cabinet construction and nearby elements, especially on corner cabinets, pocket areas and fronts close to walls.

REPLACEMENT How do I replace an existing two-hole cabinet pull?

Remove one existing pull and measure from the center of one screw hole to the center of the other. Choose the same C-C size whenever possible to reuse the holes. Then confirm the new pull's overall length and base diameter will cover any marks or impressions left by the previous hardware. Measure more than one front before ordering a full quantity.

PROPORTION What size cabinet pull should I choose?

There is no single ratio that works for every cabinet. For replacements, begin with the existing C-C spacing. For new cabinetry, compare two or more lengths against the actual door or drawer with a paper template or low-tack tape. Judge visual proportion, reach, grip, projection and nearby obstructions before the cabinet is drilled.

PLAN SIZE & PLACEMENT →

HARDWARE TYPE Should I use knobs, T-bars, cabinet pulls or long pulls?

Knobs and T-bars give doors and smaller drawers a compact one-hole grip. Cabinet pulls provide a longer grip for frequently used doors and drawers. Long pulls create leverage and a stronger line on tall doors, wide drawers and selected appliance panels. A coordinated collection lets you combine types while keeping the profile and finish consistent.

ROOM PLANNING Should every cabinet pull in a room be the same size?

Not necessarily. Using one size can create a quiet, consistent rhythm, while using related sizes can better suit very different drawer and door widths. Keep the logic simple: limit the number of sizes, repeat each size intentionally and use one collection or closely related profiles so the room does not feel fragmented.

NORTH AMERICAN SIZING Why are cabinet hardware sizes listed in millimeters?

Many cabinet hardware standards are specified in millimeters, including common C-C spacings such as 96, 128, 160 and 192 mm. We use millimeters as the primary technical dimension and provide inch equivalents where useful. When matching existing holes, measure the actual center-to-center distance rather than relying on a rounded inch description.

INSTALLATION

Confirm first. Drill once.

A template, accurate measurements and the correct screw length protect both the cabinet and the hardware. Final installation should be confirmed for the specific cabinet construction.

MOUNTING HARDWARE Are mounting screws included with OBJECT & TONE hardware?

Yes. Standard 25 mm mounting screws are included for typical single-panel cabinet doors and drawer fronts. Double-panel or unusually thick fronts may need longer screws. Measure the panel thickness before installation and add a note to the order when additional screw length may be required.

READ CARE & INSTALLATION →

PANEL THICKNESS What if my drawer front is thicker than a standard cabinet door?

Measure the full thickness the screw must pass through, including any drawer box or applied front. The included 25 mm screw is intended for typical single-panel construction and may not fit a double-panel front. Send the product name, panel thickness and a clear photograph before ordering if you are unsure about the required length.

PRE-DRILL CHECK What should I confirm before drilling new cabinet holes?

Confirm the exact product and variant, C-C spacing, overall dimensions, projection, panel thickness, placement and clearance from edges and adjacent fronts. Mark the position with a template, check alignment from normal viewing height and test the grip. On paired doors or a bank of drawers, use the same reference edge for every mark.

PLACEMENT How can I test cabinet hardware placement without drilling?

Create a paper outline or use low-tack painter's tape to mark the overall length and mounting centers on the cabinet. View it from across the room, then test reach and clearance at normal standing height. This mock-up does not replace accurate drilling measurements, but it helps resolve scale and position before a permanent decision.

INSTALLATION RESPONSIBILITY Should I install the hardware myself or use a professional?

A careful homeowner may be comfortable replacing hardware in matching existing holes. New drilling, valuable cabinetry, double-panel fronts and long pulls require more precision. Use an experienced cabinet installer when the construction, alignment or drilling method is uncertain. OBJECT & TONE can explain product dimensions, but the installer must confirm suitability for the specific cabinet.

FASTENING How tight should cabinet hardware screws be?

Tighten until the hardware sits securely and does not rotate, but do not over-tighten. Excessive force can mark the cabinet, damage threads or place stress on the mounting point. Tighten evenly by hand and recheck alignment as the piece seats against the front. If the screw bottoms out before the hardware is secure, stop and confirm the required length.

CARE & FINISH BEHAVIOR

Clean gently and keep the surface dry.

Routine care should preserve the intended appearance rather than trying to refinish it. Avoid aggressive products unless specific instructions for that item say otherwise.

CLEANING How should I clean solid brass cabinet hardware?

Use a soft cloth with warm water and mild soap when needed, then dry thoroughly with a clean soft cloth. Apply cleaner to the cloth rather than spraying the hardware or cabinet directly. Regular gentle wiping is preferable to infrequent aggressive cleaning.

VIEW CARE INSTRUCTIONS →

CLEANING Which cleaning products should I avoid?

Avoid abrasive pads, scouring tools, rough towels, bleach, acids, solvents, harsh multipurpose sprays and strongly alkaline cleaners. These can scratch, discolor or alter the intended surface. Do not let cleaner collect around the base or remain on the cabinet. If an accidental spill occurs, wipe with clean water and dry promptly.

POLISH Should I use metal polish on an OBJECT & TONE finish?

No. Do not use metal polish unless the instructions for a specific product explicitly say otherwise. Polishing compounds can change color or sheen, remove surface treatment and create an uneven result between high-touch and low-touch areas. Use the general soft-cloth, mild-soap and thorough-drying method instead.

MOISTURE How should I care for hardware on a bathroom vanity?

Use the same gentle cleaning method and wipe away water, toothpaste, skincare products and household cleaners promptly. Do not allow moisture or chemicals to sit around the base or on the cabinet surface. Room ventilation and frequency of use affect appearance, so inspect higher-touch bathroom hardware regularly and dry it after splashes.

NORMAL USE Will the finish change or show wear over time?

Normal wear and changes in appearance can occur through touch, moisture, cleaning and the surrounding environment. We do not describe every finish as a living finish or promise identical behavior across products. Gentle care helps reduce avoidable damage. The 10-year limited warranty covers qualifying mechanical defects, not a guarantee that finish appearance remains unchanged.

VARIANTS Why is a finish or size not shown for a particular product?

Finish and size availability varies by collection and hardware type. If a combination does not appear in the selector, do not assume it can be ordered in that configuration. Use the product page as the current source of truth and contact us before ordering if a project depends on a specific combination.

QUANTITY How do I calculate how many pieces of hardware to order?

Create a door-and-drawer schedule and count each mounting location by hardware type, finish and size. Separate paired doors, drawers, tall doors and any appliance panels. Verify the total against the cabinet drawings, then review every cart variant before checkout. Keep the schedule with the order so installers can match each piece to its intended location.

RETURNS Can I return hardware if the size or finish does not work?

Eligible change-of-mind returns may be requested within 30 days of delivery. Items must be uninstalled, unused, unmarked, unmodified and returned with original protective packaging, mounting hardware and accessories. Exclusions and return-postage terms apply, so read the current Shipping & Returns policy before ordering or installing.
